一年一度的意大利威尼斯嘉年华会2020年因疫情被取消，2021年因应疫情改为线上举办，今年2022年终于等到它回归了！威尼斯市长在1月21日再次确认，2022年的威尼斯嘉年华会将会发生。但没有了从圣马可钟楼起飞的天使，也没有了圣马可广场最美服装大赛。另一方面，戴面具的人将可以自由进入圣马可广场拍照和欣赏。威尼斯宫殿中的嘉年华派对和活动将被允许参加，但必须出示疫苗接种绿色通行证才能进入。
威尼斯嘉年华会是意大利威尼斯最重要的庆典之一，每年都在大斋首日前2个礼拜开始，并在忏悔节结束；此庆典是以各式各样精美制作的面具而闻名于世。威尼斯嘉年华会95%的活动都是由戴面具的人自己完成的，他们的存在是威尼斯嘉年华的真正魅力所在。
